Yes this is the question, isn’t it! The equipment is getting smarter & the club owners are looking for ways to cut costs. Just think if you head bartender was the music programer. They would sit down with the owner to set the tone of the club with a playlist & a programed light show. No dj to be found but the customer hears the music they like. Think this is to far fetched, well I have been reading about equipment & programs that do just that. I guess the bigger question is will it become less expensive for the suburban bars and or will it even be considered as an option. You can argue the point that a live dj can take requests & read the crowd. You can say the dj makes sure birthdays shout outs happen & folks are made to feel special. On the other side of the coin there are djs that don’t talk on the mic & want the music to do the talking. The sad point is these dj’s will be the first to go as the focus is the per-program program. If your set list is set then they won’t need the dj.
Let’s face we can all be replaced by a button. The point is if you are a dj, build your fan base so the customer is asking for you & that you are the reason why they are their.
