Let’s take a close look at your objective. What is the purpose of hiring entertainment? I think it is always to make sure everyone has a goodtime. If your focus is to get folks to dance & you hire a dj then you need to think about the word “Requests”. There are some that assume that they know what their guests want & will put limits on the dj. They will say no line dances & participation style music. They will give a list of songs that are the only songs they want. They will have a list of do not play songs that most folks would request. That idea only work for the dj when the following happen: They tell their guests no requests, That all requests go to a point person that they trust & that the dj can say even if he has the song that he did not bring it. If the person who hires the dj leave it on the dj to take care of this, then it can get ugly. The dj is left on the spot to tell folks they can’t hear their song & then they go to the person in charge only to have that person say play the song. The fact of the matter is if you limit your dj & don’t tell anyone then the folks who are their guests may believe that the dj is bad and they don’t know what they are doing. I believe it is important to make sure your Guests & requests fit the event. To really make sure folks have a great time give the dj some lead way for later in the event. That way folks who do request will hear something they like & the dj will look good at the event. It all depends on your focus of the event.
