It’s All In The Song
One of the reason I love working in a mobile entertainment industry is because I get to draw from all of my music knowledge and experience. Unlike some entertainers, I didn’t get into the business to play only one form of music all night. I got into it because I had a love for all forms of music and I wanted to share it with as many people as possible. This fits perfectly in a wedding environment where there is usually a large variety of ages and shared experiences. Being able to play music that brings grandma and your 5 year-old nieces and nephews together on the dancefloor is as much fun for me to do as it is for you to be part of. This is why I wanted to take a few moments to give you a “peek behind the curtain” and show you why we DJs do some of the things that we do.
In my many years of experience doing weddings, the second most challenging part of the night is often getting everyone on the dancefloor after it has been open for ten or fifteen minutes. This is due to the fact that there is usually a musical gap between the different segments of the audience. Although as a professional I work to make sure to follow the request list given to me by the couple, there are some songs that seem to be the catalyst for bringing everyone on the dancefloor together. Try as I might, songs such as “Twist and Shout” or “Unchained Melody” start the reception off better than some more current selections. As the night progresses, the music always becomes more tailored to the new couple and their requests. In the end, everyone who came to celebrate your big day has had a great time.
The reason I bring this up is because it is one thing that you might want to consider when you are planning the music for your reception. By asking your relatives and parents if they have a couple songs or a style of music that they’d like to hear, you will be able to make sure that they are kept happy and moving during that early part of your dancing. A professional entertainer, such as the ones here at D and M DJ Entertainment, will know what time of night and in what order to play songs like those. They will make certain that the music keeps everyone happy and dancing. Being able to do this one of the many reasons I enjoy every wedding that I do.
One of the best tools we have to assist you with making sure that all of your music ideas are put in an easy to access location is our online planning forms in DJ Intelligence. You can pick a title from the thousands of songs in the datatbase and put it on your request list. The best part about this is that you can do it at your leisure. Your entertainer will be notified as soon as you make changes and will discuss it with you at your next meeting. If you’d like to know more about it, please feel free to reach out to us. We’ll be happy to let you know the ways in which we can help you have the best and most stress free wedding reception you can have.
