Anyone that like to go out to dance “loves the clubs”. The energy keeps the crowd excited. The music is always what is expected or is it? Jocks who dj in this environment have a plan of action. The plan is always a combination of ideas. The kind of music, who the customers are, what the bar or club’s image is & the owners focus. The dj in question takes all these areas to put together a format, playlist & plan. Some jocks put together the mix ahead of time but makes sure breaks are added to change it up when it is needed. These kinds of places are set up for customers to go with the flow of the night. The dj’s are normally in a booth no one can get to. There maybe a phone area to call in a request but it is not encouraged. Even if you get to the dj, if your request does not fit the theme or format it will not be played. Do not take this personally as the Jock is following the plan we talked about earlier. You need to remember you are in a themed club. They have set the stage for a feel to attract a certain kind of customer. If the club is a country bar you will not hear other kinds of music & don’t expect them to bend to your non-country requests. The term “When in Rome” applies here. The other thing to think about is the way you react to the jock doing their job. Don’t get up set when they say no & to the tip you want to give them for the song you want. You would not want them going to your job and asking you to do something that you are not allowed to do, would you? The club jock is putting on a show to excite a crowd & make the party happen. They don’t take requests because they have the format & plan to follow. It is the customers job to find the right place that fits them.

A few things to not say to a club jock:

Nobodies dancing anyway

My song will get folks dancing

You should play it because we are friends

Why are you playing this song Nobody likes it

You’re the professional

Play something good

Remember these dj’s are people too, To be rude & yell at them because you think you know better is not the right idea. Treat them like people & if there is a chance to get your song played it may happen.

Club jocks are what I would say are The Show!
