In all markets you will find businesses competing for business. Some businesses do a good job of referring business to competitors they trust. Other businesses have more than enough folks on their team to take care of all business they can handle, or do they. In the dj market all dj’s will hire themselves out and work for larger companies in the market. It really would not be unheard of a customer going through many interviews to find a company they trust only to find they have one of the other dj’s they have interviewed djing their event. Of course this does not happen a lot but can if you think about it. The dj community is close-knit and anyone that has been working for a while will be in this circle. Your veterans you could say.
All this a side the market will set a price & those that want to keep working will follow this idea. What does all this mean? Well it comes down to this, you will find your steady eddies, the newbies & the ego trip dj’s. Most of them will tell you the same thing: We all have the same music & we all follow a similar format in the wedding market. The difference is how well you get a long with the dj you hire. You should never hire a dj on price alone. You will want to make sure they will follow your lead. The dj market like any businesses will work to sell you as this is how they pay their rent. Take your time & ask the right questions. You will hear crazy story about dj’s that have done bad things & reputation will be talked about as well. Take that under consideration as they may be using that to get you to sign with them.
Unlike all business the dj world is based on referrals, reputation & ego. Some will be credible with who they are & who they would recommend, others will do the opposite. Just think about it while you are out an about!
